Plan to Work and Work your Plan!

Plan to Work and Work your Plan!
By Tami Eggleston (c)2006
The middle of the race season is the time of the year that really separates the winners from the, well let's just call them the non-winners. This is the time of the year that racing can really start to feel like work. If you aren't willing to work, then you really can't plan on being a successful racer. During this time of the season is when a lot of general upkeep and repairs are probably necessary on your race car, trailer, tow rig, pit vehicle, etc. Not to mention that at this time of the year the "Honeymoon, gee I can't wait to get out there and go racing!" has worn off. Now you are dealing with the realities of broken parts, fixing things, maintaining things, losing by a few thousandths of a second. So now is the time to "stay strong." This is the time period for a marathon runner in the middle of the race when the initial adrenaline rush has worn off but the the "runner's high" endorphins haven't kicked in yet, so it just hurts. Right now plan to work....figure out what you need to do to keep going and finish the end of the year strong. If you are doing somethings wrong (e.g., bad lights, inconsistent lights, bad finish line driving, car troubles, etc.), well try something new to fix these things. If you are doing everything right but just coming up on the losing side of some good races, then just keep working your plan....My advice to folks in July is to hang in there, fix what needs fixing, do the hard but necessary work, keep a positive attitude, and finish the race season season strong by working your plan.
